Choose the area that fits your stay
Choose Old Town for the historic centre, New Town for Charlotte Square, or West Coates for a different pace. If Edinburgh is part of a move to Australia via London, allow a separate journey south and the agreed pre-flight veterinary time; Edinburgh is not the departure point for the London–Melbourne flight.
| Hotel | Area | Pet arrangement |
|---|---|---|
| Virgin Hotels Edinburgh | Old Town | No published pet fee, size or breed restriction on the pet page. |
| The Roseate Edinburgh | West Coates | Dogs in all guest rooms; published £20 per pet per night. |

| Kimpton Charlotte Square | New Town | Pet stays offered; resolve size and species with the property. |
Virgin Hotels Edinburgh — Old Town
A strong starting point for a larger dog: the hotel’s pet page says pets stay free with no size or breed restrictions. The Old Town setting is useful for a city break, although cobbles, hills and busy streets may make a quieter walking route preferable for a newly arrived dog. The hotel supplies pet amenities including a bed and bowls.

The Roseate Edinburgh — West Coates
This dog-friendly property welcomes dogs in all guest rooms and publishes a £20 charge per pet per night, including a bed, treats and bowls. West Coates is a different base from the busiest Royal Mile streets. For a drive to London afterwards, compare parking arrangements and your departure route alongside the room rate.

The Balmoral — Princes Street
Its dog policy normally allows one dog under 20 lb; heavier dogs need written management approval. It suits a small-dog luxury city stay, with clearly defined restrictions on where dogs may accompany you. If travelling as a couple, plan meals and appointments around the policy against leaving the dog unattended.

Kimpton Charlotte Square — New Town
An alternative on Charlotte Square for a New Town stay. The hotel’s FAQ has specified a 35 kg dog limit while other official brand wording is broader. Treat the property’s written acceptance of your particular dog as the deciding point, especially for a larger breed or more than one pet.

Make the first night easy
Give the hotel your arrival time, pet species, number of animals and weights in the same message as your room request. Ask for the complete room-and-pet price for your dates. Keep your pet’s usual food, a familiar blanket and any medication in your arrival bag, and choose a room location with a straightforward route outside. For cats, a quiet room and a secure place for the litter tray matter more than a dog-walking package.
